Our initial venture into competitive league football was in the 2022-23 season, a side that ultimately become our increasingly successful over 50s team. With ever growing club member numbers, in 2023 we were also able to enter an over 60s team into the league.
The over 60s team was competitive from the start, quickly coming to terms with the additional rigours of league football, including the laws of the game being strictly applied by official referees.
Last season we entered two over 60s teams in the league. It was a tough baptism for the yellow squad, who finished 2nd bottom of the table, but they creditably picked up a win and 4 draws in 12 league games. Numbers are not quite there to be able to sustain two over 60s squads for 2026-27, but we are very much open to the idea of having two squads in the future if and when numbers of interested players increase. League football isn’t for everyone, for a multitude of reasons, but the question will be asked of everyone again after the 2026-27 season is over.
The 2025/26 season did, however, see the blue squad achieve an impressive third place in the league and reach the club’s first ever cup final, ultimately losing a close game to Worthing Reds who ‘did the double’ and won every game they played.
The over 60s will continue to grow and improve, and the future looks bright for continued success.
